Harvard Bass is one of southern California's favorites as well as here in Mexicali, we recently had the chance to probe the brain of the dj/producer with some questions about life, love and the future of human civilization.
RKRZ:Tell us a little about yourself there buddy, A/S/L? Cyber?
HB: lol early 20s male San Diego CA. no cyber plz
RKRZ: What made you change your alias this past year? Do the women still call you Sleazy V when they see you at the mall?
HB: I never liked the name sleazy v.... ever since I got the name I was trying to find out another name that I would like. It took a while but now I finally found a name I like. A girl went up to me at a mall the other day and said "Sleazy V, I'm a big fan".... I was surprised that she even knew who I was so it was rad.
RKRZ: If you could re-invent yourself as a superhero what would be your special power and what would your costume look like?
HB: Do I have to answer this???
RKRZ: Yes.. you do.
HB: I don't know what super power I would have, but I would definitely rock the fruit of the loom tighty whities as a suit.
RKRZ:Your dj style is always evolving, do you want to throw up when you here another dj playing tired old back to back bangers? What advice would you give to a dj like that?
HB: Not really throw up. People play what they like I cant control it.... I just think people should just be more open about their taste in music.
RKRZ: More recently it seems there has been somewhat of a backlash against serato dj's. Do those people have a valid argument? Do you see yourself switching to cdj's or all vinyl?
HB: Well if I had serato, I would keep using it because of how easy it is to find songs you are looking for but when people mug you, they tend to not bring your stuff back... I love cdj's and I dont think I would ever go back to carrying vinyl. Ever.
RKRZ: If you could own any synth or drum machine what would it be?
HB: MPC 5000.
RKRZ:Who are some of your favorite producers/dj's at the moment?
HB: There's a lot but here are six. Acid Girls, Riva Starr, Marc Houle, Bingo Players, SMD, Joe and Will Ask.
RKRZ: If you could make the world listen to one song what would it be?
HB: ""Really Mean It" by Cam'ron. The most epic track ever.
RKRZ: Is the world really going to end in 2012?
HB: Maybe? yes? no? I'm scared. Haha sike. I think the Aztecs ran out of rock to write on and could'nt continue on with the calender.
RKRZ: Thank you Harvard Bass for your generous time.
HB: Thank you, it's a pleasure!
